NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC)

The Role
We are currently seeking a motivated and experienced clinical pharmacist with excellent communication skills to join the surgical and critical care team at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. You will be part of our team helping to lead and develop patient focused clinical services to a variety of surgical specialties which include both regional and national centres for Intestinal Failure, Burns, Plastics and Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary diseases.

You will work in our surgical wards and will have regular rotations within our critical care unit attending daily ward rounds and working closely with the MDT as well as participating in GGC wide perioperative clinics. You will be an active member of the multidisciplinary team participating in team meetings, research and quality improvement. You will support the development of our technical staff and foundation pharmacists and trainees.

You will act as a source of information and prescribing support providing information on all aspects of drug use including patient safety and contributing to strategic plans for modernising pharmacy services. Opportunities to advance your clinical practice in line with the Advanced Practice Curriculum are encouraged.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

* Location based in Glasgow Royal Infirmary (GRI). This is a busy teaching hospital situated in the North of Glasgow and has an excellent team of friendly pharmacy staff committed to advanced practice for both pharmacists and technicians.
* Full-time position (37 hours per week)
* Permanent Role
* Shift pattern are Monday to Friday, from 08:30am to 16:45pm with one day finish at 16:15 with participation in weekend, public holiday and on call shifts

Key Responsibilities

* Participate in Medicines Use Review/Evaluation projects, research and clinical audit as part of the multidisciplinary audit process
* Contribute to the management of any risks associated with the use and administration of medicines. Identify and manage issues, escalating to medical and/or senior pharmacy staff when required
* Carry out responsibilities in a way which at all times is consistent with statutory and legal obligations including health and safety legislation, COSHH, the Medicines Act, Misuse of Drugs Act, Rules and Guidance for Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Distributors 2002 etc and the General Pharmaceutical Council of Great Britain's Code of Ethics.
* Act to ensure the security and appropriate storage of medicines is maintained at both ward and department level (including security of keys and maintenance of alarm systems)
* Ensure safe working procedures are maintained and followed
* Maintain a broad understanding of pharmacy including dispensing, distribution and safe preparation of intravenous medicines
* Monitor safe and secure handling of medicines at ward, clinic and departmental level
* Participate in monitoring requests for new items in relation to drug formularies, guidelines, Drug and Therapeutic Committee decisions, Scottish Medicines Consortium guidance and other pharmacy related strategies

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
You should have a Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent and be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council. You should have completed or are currently undertaking the NES Foundation Level Training or equivalent. You should have or be working towards a prescribing qualification.
