ABOUT THE ROLE
We're looking for a strategic, hands-on Finance Director (m/f/d) to lead the financial operations of our rapidly scaling UK subsidiary, Pliant Payments Ltd. (Pliant UK). This role is an exceptional opportunity for a finance leader to help build and scale the UK business as well as to support the funding of the entire business of a high-growth fintech, working closely with and reporting to the Group CFO.
As Finance Director of Pliant UK, you'll be responsible for leading day-to-day financial management, ensuring accurate reporting, regulatory compliance, and partnering with leadership to support strategic initiatives, especially debt funding. This role is ideal for someone eager to step into a high-impact position that blends operational excellence with forward-looking financial planning and capital structure management in a fast-paced environment.
This is a pivotal role for an ambitious finance leader who thrives in growth settings, values autonomy, and enjoys translating financial insights into strategic business outcomes.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
* Lead Financial Operations: Hands-on manage and improve core finance functions in the UK - including accounting, financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting, and audit coordination - ensuring operational accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
* Support Strategic Decision-Making: Partner with business leads and the Group CFO to provide data-driven insights and financial analysis that support strategic planning and investment decisions, contributing directly to Pliant UK's success.
* Enhance Processes & Controls: Implement scalable processes, internal controls, and reporting frameworks to support the UK's continued expansion and evolving regulatory environment.
* Regulatory & Governance Support: Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to ensure adherence to FCA regulations and evolving UK regulatory frameworks. Act as a finance point of contact for auditors and regulators, as needed.
* Support Strategic Debt Funding: Co-engage potential debt funding partners, co-negotiate terms as well as manage legal & operational implementation of debt funding transactions.
* Stakeholder Management: Build effective relationships with external partners including auditors, banks, funds and legal advisors. Manage and monitor financing arrangements in close coordination with the Group Finance team.
* Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work across functions to align finance with product, commercial, and operations teams, ensuring financial considerations are embedded into key initiatives and decisions.
* Team Building: Manage and mentor junior finance team members, helping to develop a high-performing, efficient, and motivated finance function within Pliant.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
* Substantial experience in a senior finance role within a high-growth fintech, payments, lending, or broader financial services company.
* Deep working knowledge of UK GAAP or IFRS, along with proven experience in FP&A, audit processes, budgeting, and financial controls.
* Familiarity with regulatory reporting and engagement in FCA-supervised environments, even if not the primary liaison.
* Experience supporting or managing financing operations and stakeholder relations as well as in debt funding.
* A hands-on, detail-oriented working style combined with strong communication skills and strategic thinking.
* Entrepreneurial mindset and comfort with ambiguity; you bring structure and clarity to fast-evolving challenges.
* ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent qualification preferred.
* Previous experience in investment banking, consulting, or audit is advantageous, particularly in client-facing or strategic roles.
