Job Details
This is a relief position to cover sickness and holidays.
Fife Council is seeking a dynamic and innovative Harbour Master to join our Harbours team.
The role entails but not limited to harbour control, inspection and reporting defects of harbour facilities, maintaining cleanliness around the harbour, collection of harbour dues and record keeping. Responsibilities will include:
* Supervise and direct berthing of vessels.
* Supervise and control the use of electricity and water supply.
* Inspect all navigation and leading lights, and test as required. Report on any replacements or repairs necessary to maintain correct operations.
* Inspect piers, lifesaving equipment and ladders etc and report any defects. Prevent use/access if dangerous.
* Ensure harbour users remove surplus and useless nets, ropes, chains and other fishing gear to maintain tidy piers with clear safe access. Report any difficulties with users not co-operating.
* Ensure high standards of Health and Safety are maintained on the harbour premises.
* Collect harbour dues and issue electricity cards as required.
* Complete occasional cash returns and bank deposit counterfoils and send in to Fife House.
* Provide a well turned out, approachable and courteous service to harbour users and members of the public using harbour premises.
* Any other tasks within the general scope of the post that may be required.
* Available for occasional unsocial hours and weekend working.

The Person
The individual will be required to have a good working knowledge of harbours functions.
A courteous manner is required when dealing with members of the public.
Good mobility, health and fitness are essential. The job will involve negotiating harbour ladders, etc and working in all weather conditions.
Ability to travel to different sites at short notice across Fife.
Ability to travel to different locations during working hours.
