This role supports our vision by assisting the shop manager in developing and managing one of our shops. In this really hands-on role, your excellent talent for organisation will ensure the effective management of a team of colleagues and volunteers to achieve sales targets and maintain excellent merchandising standards.
Be the Forget Me Not Children&©s Hospice&©s &«ambassador&ª in the local community delivering our organisations key messages and promoting all aspects of the charity within the local area.
Main Duties and Key Responsibilities
Income & Budgets
1. Help achieve and wherever possible exceed sales budgets for the shop and online, and proactively address any shortfall in sales with support from the shop Manager and Area Manager.
2. Support the Manager in ensuring the Gift Aid process effectively and efficiently.
3. Ensure pricing structures are adhered to, to enable the shop to maximise profit. (e.g. to include seasonal changes, external events etc.).
Customer Service/ Public Relations
4. Proactively drive excellent customer service
5. Proactively promote Forget Me Not Children&©s Hospice campaigns and core messages as directed by Area Manager.
6. Assist the Manager in developing links with local businesses and organisations and publicise the shop.
Merchandising and Premises
7. Maintain high standards of merchandising throughout the shop creating innovative merchandise displays and making maximising use of window and internal display opportunities.
8. Achieve and maintain a high standard of housekeeping and cleanliness throughout the shop.
9. Assist the Shop Manager in ensuring that all statutory responsibilities are met, including Fire and Health & Safety Regulations for the shop.
10. Be a designated shop key holder, opening and closing the premises.
Stock
11. Ensure the shop and online has sufficient high quality donated stock and work with the Shop Manager to increase donations where necessary.
12. Monitor and rotate stock so that no items remain on the shop floor longer than agreed time limits and it is processed efficiently, transferring stock to other shops as necessary.
13. Work with the Shop Manager using management information and reports available to ensure the shop stock is displayed proportionately and price ranges are in-line with optimum levels.
14. Accept, sort, price and display stock in accordance with our guidelines, acknowledging receipt and arranging collection and deliveries where necessary.
15. Promote the furniture collection and house clearance services.
16. Adhere to stock management procedures.
Team and Cost Management Responsibilities
17. Lead by example and adhere to all hospice and retail policies and procedures.
18. Assist the Shop Manager in ensuring the shop is sufficiently staffed at all times.
19. Support the Shop Manager in managing all shop resources effectively including shop consumables and ensuring these do not exceed expenditure budgets.
20. Assist in delivering a pro-active plan to attract and retain new Volunteers to the shop with the Shop Manager.
21. Assist in managing the volunteer team to ensure duties are allocated fairly
22. Utilise and develop the skills of the volunteer team, to ensure they are engaged in all areas of the shop operation, identifying their strengths and development needs and communicating to the Shop Manager.
23. Attend regular Assistant Manager Meetings and any other meetings on behalf of the hospice as indicated by the Area Manager.
24. Be actively involved in team meetings within the shop for staff and volunteers.
25. Be available to cover shop and other shops at short notice in the event of sickness and/or holiday.
26. Promote a happy working environment for all staff and volunteers
Administration
27. Assist Shop Manager in ensuring all administration is completed, actioned, mailed and filed securely and correctly within hospice and retail guidelines.
28. Assist Shop Manger in ensuring that all Forget Me Not Children&©s Hospice administrative and financial procedures are followed, including banking, petty cash and monetary donations.
29. Assist Shop Manager in ensuring that all electronic records and e-mails are actioned or responded to appropriately and within timeframes set, complying with the GDPR and hospice security procedures.
30. Assist Manager in ensuring all staff and volunteer records are up to date and stored in accordance with GDPR.
31. Complete mandatory training when requested.
Security
32. Ensure staff and volunteers are security conscious and are following the correct procedures.
33. Ensure all premises are secure and report any concerns to the Shop Manager.
34. Inform the relevant bodies where there has been or where there has been a suspicion of a breach of any security procedures.
35. Ensure that all volunteers follow the correct cash handling and stock handling procedures within the shop at all times.
We expect all staff to undertake any other duties within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job, the title of the post and its grading, as requested by your line manager or their higher level of authority on behalf of the charity.

This role will involve evening and weekend work so flexibility is essential.
