Principal Tasks and Responsibilities POST Holder principal tasks and responsibilities are: 4.1 Within SQEP profile, preparing and/or checking designs, analyses, reports, drawings, specifications and other documents in support of Nuclear and Non-Nuclear related plant, facility and equipment within the companys licensed, authorised and operational sites, or in support of external contracts. 4.2 Participate in the problem solving for development of technical solutions to deficiencies or in the development of new designs. 4.3 Complete the review and sentencing of new designs, methodology of construction and temporary works submitted to the Technical Authority. 4.4 To manage design work packages. Supporting planning of activities, with respect to task durations, level of effort, through to provision of design deliverables with regular schedule reviews and progress reporting, technical reviews, and construction support. 4.5 Supervise and provide on-the-job guidance to the junior staff. 4.6 Make effective use of Learn from Experience information to develop and disseminate theoretical knowledge in relation to practical engineering and to maintain a record of development to substantiate the skills achieved. 4.7 Support development, construction, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of Facilities to ensure that they comply with the design intent and DNSPs for Nuclear related Works, together with all relevant Local and National Regulations and Legislation. 4.8 Support the on-site inspection of DRDL assets for their construction, maintenance and modification. 4.9 Maintain familiarity with DRDL procedures used within Facilities Engineering. 5.0 Specific Responsibilities as a Duly Authorised Person (DAP) The Post Holder is not an appointed DAP. 6.0 Specific Responsibilities for Trade Controls Officers/Managers (TCOs & TCMs) The Post Holder is not appointed as a TCO or TCM. 7.0 Specific Responsibilities for Information Asset Owner (IAO)/Senior IAO (SIAO) The Post Holder is not appointed as an IAO or SIAO. 8.0 Interfacing Responsibilities For the tasks and responsibilities identified in Section 4 to be carried out and discharged effectively, there are a number of limited responsibilities of other groups or persons that must also be discharged. Principal amongst these are: 8.1 Other Engineers of all level and discipline (within FLEET22 team) – to ensure that the engineering packages interface with the other packages, and to resolve conflicts / clashes 8.2 Operations & Integration Lead – communication of operational capabilities for systems to ensure that the overall operational concept meets the high level capability requirements of the Facility 8.3 Safety Case Engineers – to communicate design specification enabling justification and fulfilment of any associated Safety Functional Requirements (SFRs) 8.4 Project / Package Manager – to communicate on project deliverables to scope, schedule and cost. Raise any technical issues that may have an effect on overall project delivery 8.5 User Acceptance Group (UAG) – demonstration that the designed systems will meet the functional User Requirements 8.6 Design Authority (DA) – to advise on technical governance aspects of deliverables to ensure that quality is of required standard. 8.7 Engineering Services Technical Authority (ES TA) – to attain information on current systems, learning from experience, dockyard best practice etc. 8.8 Plant Managers & Design and Safety Managers (as appropriate): to advise on the use of plant to accord with design intent. 8.9 Other Designers and Engineers from within Facilities Engineering and other MIP projects for design coordination across disciplines. 8.10 External suppliers, including Design House subcontractors: to ensure co-ordination and compliance with design intent as set by the Engineer responsible and for resolution of technical queries. 9.0 Authority Post Holder is authorised to 9.1 Request the necessary support from the Design Manager within the constraints of budget and in accordance with the project strategy. Liaise with the Design Manager to prioritise assigned projects/work packages. 9.2 Undertake the preparation and checking of design documentation agreed appropriate by the Design Manager. 9.3 Develop & implement the Engineering Management Plan for packages within scope and ensure appropriate direction to ensure the delivery of technical requirements. 9.4 Undertake the planning, estimating and resource management of assigned projects. 9.5 Audit defined processes and activities within the Engineering Management Plan to ensure compliance and continuous improvement. 9.6 Sanction actions that support the development and implementation of the Engineering Management Plan. Up to £65 Umbrella per hour Hybrid working 2-3 days onsite per week in Plymouth OR Bristol Academic: A degree or HND in an appropriate engineering discipline. Chartered Engineer, or working towards. Nuclear: Nuclear Introductory Course or equivalent nuclear and/or marine system knowledge. Local: • Design of electrical building services, to include fire detection and alarm systems, industrial lighting and emergency lighting, site broadcast (PA) and HVAC • Design low voltage electrical distribution systems • Design of control & instrumentation systems • Design of communications and data systems • Experience of substantiation of SIL and high integrity systems for justification of Nuclear Safety functions. • Sound understanding of engineering design and safety practice as relevant to post and project requirements. • Sound understanding of company and departmental procedures relating to Health and Safety, Design and quality Experience • The post holder must be able to demonstrate relevant knowledge and skills required in the technical management of complex design development throughout the design lifecycle • Management of a single discipline engineering team • Provide expert advice to the sub-contracted design houses to enable them to develop the design • Sound understanding of engineering design and safety practice as relevant to discipline, post and project requirements • Sound project specification, planning, project management and budgeting experience • Sound understanding of Company and departmental procedures relating to Design, Health & Safety and Quality requirements, and ability to manage projects in accordance with these procedures. • Working knowledge of relevant engineering office computer applications • Experience of the design support to construction, operation, refit/repair of conventional and nuclear submarines and/or facilities ADZN1_UKTJ
