This isn't your average Project Accountant role...
If you're looking for a job where you sit in the corner updating spreadsheets and getting ignored until month-end... this isn't it.
This is a genuinely commercial, high-visibility finance role in a fast-growing engineering and manufacturing business where projects drive everything. You'll be right in the middle of the action, working with engineers and programme teams to keep a grip on spend, profitability, forecasting and project delivery.
This is a role for someone who wants to be involved, challenge, influence, and actually make a difference.
What's in it for you?
✔ A business that's growing fast and investing heavily
✔ High-value, long-term projects (not tiny "tick box" work)
✔ Real exposure to engineering leadership and decision-making
✔ A chance to build a career, not just fill a seat
✔ Hybrid working but still a business that values people being present and building relationships
✔ Early finish Fridays
✔ Flexible start time between 8 and 10
✔ Strong benefits package including enhanced pension, private medical, share scheme, EV salary sacrifice and life assurance
What you'll actually be doing
You'll act as the finance partner for a portfolio of engineering and manufacturing programmes, giving project teams the financial clarity they need to make good decisions.
That means:
Tracking project spend vs budget and calling out variances early
Helping project teams understand profitability, risk and performance
Producing forward forecasts and contributing to longer-term planning
Supporting revenue recognition and project margin reporting
Getting involved in bids and commercial decision-making
Supporting inventory and project cost control at month-end
Supporting cost modelling and cost rate decks
Supporting grant reporting / funding applications where needed
Supporting development cost capitalisation and R&D related reporting
In short: you'll be the person who makes sure projects don't drift financially.
What they're looking for
They don't want someone who hides behind spreadsheets.
They want someone who can talk to engineers, build relationships, and hold their own in a room.
Ideally you'll have:
Strong management accounting or project accounting experience
Experience in a project-led environment (engineering / manufacturing / R&D is a bonus)
Confidence communicating with non-finance stakeholders
Strong forecasting and commercial awareness
Solid Excel skills
ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified (finalists considered)
Personality matters. If you bring energy, confidence and commercial thinking, you'll stand out.
