An established aerospace engineering organisation based in Wimborne, Dorset is looking to appoint a Systems Project Engineer to support the delivery of complex engineering programmes within a highly regulated environment.
The site designs and delivers specialist aerospace systems used across fixed and rotary-wing platforms, supporting both new development and in-service products.
The role offers a balance of technical ownership, project responsibility, and collaboration across engineering, project, and customer-facing teams.
As a Systems Project Engineer, you will take responsibility for small to medium engineering projects, or defined technical work packages within larger programmes.
You will work closely with project management, customers, and internal engineering disciplines to ensure technical requirements are clearly understood and delivered effectively.
This position would suit an engineer who enjoys seeing work through from early requirements into qualification and service, while also supporting others within the team.
Key Responsibilities of a Systems Engineer:
Lead engineering activities for assigned projects or work packages, including proposals, product introductions, and in-service modifications.
Develop and manage engineering plans, coordinating tasks, priorities, and milestones across multiple functions.
Act as a technical focal point for customer interaction, ensuring requirements are captured and translated into practical engineering solutions.
Contribute across the full system life cycle, including requirements, design, development, integration, verification, and qualification.
Identify and manage technical risks and opportunities, maintaining appropriate design trace ability throughout the life cycle.
Support junior engineers and apprentices through technical guidance and mentoring.
Manage engineering change and support resource planning in collaboration with engineering leadership.Background & Experience:
Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (HNC or completed apprenticeship with equivalent experience will also be considered).
Around 5 years’ experience working in a complex engineering or manufacturing environment.
Experience in one or more of the following areas:
Mechanical or electro-mechanical engineering
Fluids or mechanisms
Structures
Systems or product developmentSkills & Attributes:
Clear and confident communicator, comfortable working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Structured, methodical approach to problem-solving with a proactive mindset.
Familiarity with engineering life cycles, technical documentation, and design reviews.
Able to present technical information at different levels within the business.
Experience with project scheduling and engineering approvals would be advantageous.
This role involves exposure to US ITAR-controlled technology and information. As a result, the successful candidate may be required to complete additional screening as part of the recruitment process.
