Overview
Biomedical Scientist role within North West London Pathology. Applications are sought from self-motivated individuals with experience in a busy and dynamic blood sciences laboratory, haematology and blood transfusion laboratory, or clinical biochemistry laboratory. The successful candidate will have excellent technical, interpersonal and IT skills and a drive to develop knowledge and skills and contribute to biomedical science development. The ability to communicate effectively and work independently or collaboratively is essential.
Responsibilities
* Take part in staff rotation, providing a high-quality analytical service in all sections, following standard operating procedures
* Contribute to providing a professional laboratory service, working effectively as a team member as part of the department
* Provide basic clinical technical services to patients that may include research and audit
* As a registered BMS, be encouraged to undertake specialist training in the relevant discipline leading to the attainment of the IBMS Specialist Diploma
* Able to perform all core scientific and interpretive work, in line with the training and qualifications of a Registered Healthcare Scientist
* Expected to develop and improve professional expertise
Qualifications and Experience
Education
* IBMS Accredited BSc Biomedical Science degree
* Completed registration portfolio
* Registration with the HCPC as a biomedical scientist
Skills
* Detail-oriented and methodical: ability to follow instructions precisely and maintain organized work processes
* Strong communication skills: ability to present information clearly; reliable and trustworthy in all interactions
* Numerate and quick learner: proficient with numerical data and able to rapidly grasp new concepts and techniques
* Team player with self-motivation: works collaboratively as part of a team while demonstrating initiative
Experience
* Essential: basic scientific skills appropriate to a pathology laboratory
* Essential: demonstrates continual learning through academic or practical experience
* Desirable: work experience in a relevant diagnostic laboratory; knowledge of health and safety issues
