Murray Recruitment are recruiting a Lead Quantity Surveyor for our client based in Newhouse.
Role Overview
This is a key commercial role responsible for protecting profitability, managing financial performance, and ensuring accurate cost control across projects. The successful candidate will lead commercial activities, oversee tendering and contract management, and support the development of junior team members. With a strong site presence, the role ensures accurate reporting, effective stakeholder management, and the successful delivery of projects aligned to business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and maintain strong client relationships to support retention and business growth
* Prepare accurate estimates and review tender and contract documentation to mitigate risk
* Manage procurement activities and build a reliable, cost-effective supply chain
* Monitor contract performance, controlling costs and identifying variances
* Manage variations, valuations, and final accounts within contractual timescales
* Ensure timely applications for payment, invoicing, and effective debt management
* Oversee subcontractor orders, payments, and minimise risk of disputes or claims
* Produce accurate financial reports including monthly CVRs, forecasts, and performance metrics
* Achieve gross margin targets and ensure effective cost allocation
* Support recruitment, training, and development of commercial and administrative teams
* Contribute to tender submissions, commercial strategy, and branch/regional meetings
* Provide commercial assurance through forecasting, project reviews, and risk management
* Support dispute resolution and provide contractual guidance
* Monitor branch performance including WIP, aged debt, and under performing contracts
* Assist in negotiations with clients and supply chain partners
* Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and systems
* Manage commercial processes through internal systems and oversee month-end reporting
Skills & Experience
* BSc (Hons) Degree in Quantity Surveying
* Minimum 7 years’ experience, ideally within reactive maintenance or social housing
* Strong commercial acumen with proven negotiation skills. Excellent analytical, reporting, and financial management skills
* Experience managing CVRs, cost reporting, and contract performance
* Strong leadership and team development capabilities
* Familiarity with NEC and JCT/SBCC contracts advantageous. Proficient in MS Excel and measurement software
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Motivated, proactive, and driven to succeed

* Salary £50,000 – £60,000
