Job Summary

UK Space Command is the Defence lead for space operations, space workforce, and space capability. A Joint Command staffed by personnel from the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, Civil Service, contractors and alongside our allies and partners, we are at the forefront of activity to make space safe, secure, and sustainable for all generations.

Key to realising our ambitions is an effective project planning function which supports the development and delivery of leading-edge space equipment and change programmes across a range of delivery methods!

As the planning and scheduling lead within the Portfolio Office, you work with colleagues across all functions to assure our change initiatives have realistic and resourced plans, ensuring an achievable portfolio plan by which to demonstrate progress against the Defence Space Strategy.

This role offers the opportunity to further develop your existing project delivery experience and knowledge, whilst championing the use of appropriate technology and methodology in an exciting yet encouraging environment!

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week. We operate a hybrid working environment and the expectation is that you will attend site around two-three times a week according to business need/team. Initially, you will be expected to attend more frequently to familiarise yourself with the site, the team and the position you will be working on in more detail.

Job Description

In this role, your day to day could consist of:


* Supporting capability building, and working with project leads to ensure that plans and schedules are realistic and achievable, alongside identifying options to optimise delivery.
* Managing the portfolio delivery plan and its critical path, monitoring progress, and recognising/tracking inter-dependencies across change initiatives.
* Collaborating with the portfolio analyst and risk manager to analyse information highlighting progress, slippage and areas of risk and opportunity to the portfolio board.
* Motivating, engaging and empowering your team (1 x HEO Risk Manager) to deliver their contribution to Defence outputs; supporting and encouraging their learning and development.

Person specification

Essential Skills And Experience

* Project Performance and Controls: Experience and solid understanding of formal performance and control methodologies.
* Schedule Management: Knowledge and experience of developing, producing and maintaining schedules that take account of dependencies, resource requirements and constraints in order to enable the efficient realisation of benefits.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Experience of effective collaboration with project and programme teams, including the provision of expert advice to create Programme plans and with internal and external stakeholders to report progress and performance against the portfolio level plan.
* Risk Management: Experience in identification of risks to the Schedule that may cause delays and raise issues that have resulted in a schedule delay to the appropriate level.
* Problem Solving: knowledge and skills with the ability to interpret data to form well thought out conclusions and recommendations
* Flexibility and Adaptability: An ability to work on several different activities and to work flexibly across these activities, offering support, as the need arises.

Desirable Skills And Experience

* MS Project Practitioner.
