Overview
We have a fantastic opportunity for an Assistant Team Manager to take the next step in their career within a well-established and forward-thinking local authority. You’ll be joining a motivated, lively, and fast-paced Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) dedicated to improving children’s lives, keeping them safe from harm, and ensuring they have the best possible start.
As part of a strong and supportive management team, you’ll play a key role in shaping high‑quality practice, driving performance, and supporting social workers and Contact & Referral Officers to deliver outstanding services every day.
In addition to the salary advertised, you will receive a market premium of £2,750 per annum.
This role is subject to vetting checks as it is based at the Aylesbury Police Station.

About the role
As an Assistant Team Manager, you will support the Team Manager in the leadership and day‑to‑day management of the MASH, ensuring children receive the right service at the right time.
You will:
1. Supervise and develop a pod of qualified Social Workers and Contact & Referral Officers, providing reflective, high‑quality supervision.
2. Lead on risk assessment and decision-making, ensuring all referrals are reviewed, triaged, and responded to within statutory timescales.
3. Chair strategy discussions and work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary partners to safeguard children effectively.
4. Provide professional guidance and high‑quality advice to partners and families, ensuring responses are timely, consistent, and child-centred.
5. Support the effective transfer of cases to Assessment Teams with clear risk assessments and recommendations.
6. Promote robust practice standards, helping to improve outcomes, manage performance, and ensure value for money.
7. Assist the Team Manager with ongoing service development, contributing to training, staff induction, and quality assurance activity.

About you
You’ll bring substantial experience in statutory children’s social care, including either supervisory experience within MASH or significant frontline MASH practice. You will also hold a recognised Social Work qualification and be registered with Social Work England.
