Overview
GE’s Power Conversion & Storage business, part of GE Vernova, provides electrification systems that are critical to customers’ power and energy needs for high‑performance applications. We work with some of the world’s major energy, maritime, and industrial organizations, helping to enable a transition to energy efficiency and decarbonization through our specialist motors, drives, and control technologies. We have a long heritage in the design and manufacture of complex electrical motors and generators for customers worldwide across sectors such as Marine, Oil & Gas, Naval and Industry. Reporting to the Senior Sourcing Leader within the Systems business unit, the Strategic Sourcing Commodity Manager is responsible for the full wing‑to‑wing sourcing process for assigned commodities.
Responsibilities
* Formulate a commodity strategy based on historical data, future project demand, and key indicators.
* Lead the execution of the local sourcing strategy aligned with global guidance, driving strategic supplier initiatives, selection, development, and consolidation to optimize business performance.
* Execute across the purchase base with full accountability for meeting deflation (savings), usage, cash, and preferred supplier targets.
* Carry out in‑depth cost‑breakdown analysis and negotiate the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) within local and global supply bases.
* Negotiate supplier contracts in collaboration with legal teams.
* Manage and lead risk‑mitigation plans for assigned commodities.
* Support the bidding team with RFQs to achieve the lowest possible TCO and lead times in line with customer expectations.
* Identify, select, develop, audit new suppliers and support their onboarding with the quality team.
* Lead Make‑vs‑Buy decision metrics.
* Continuously review supplier performance against quality, cost, delivery, and risk metrics (Supplier Scorecard) to maintain a best‑in‑class supply chain.
* Lead supplier business reviews to strengthen strategic relationships with preferred suppliers.
* Lead sourcing board reviews (Management Review Board) for commodity strategy and project sourcing strategy.
* Drive lowest cost of poor quality (CoPQ) metrics in collaboration with SQIE.
* Support the warranty team to secure appropriate supplier support for customer issues and process/product improvements.
* Maintain compliance with GEV’s policies and procedures.
Qualifications / Requirements
* Bachelor’s degree in technical/engineering, preferably electrical or electromechanical.
* 8+ years of experience with electrical panels such as switchboards and converters/drives.
* Certification in CIPS (desirable).
* Relevant experience within a manufacturing/engineering environment.
* Ability to develop sourcing strategies.
* Understanding of legal terms and contract negotiation.
* Willingness and ability to travel nationally and internationally as required.
* Capability to manage a small team of sourcing specialists in the future.
