Clinical Responsibilities: To assist the clinical teams in the day to day running of the radiology departments at Ashford, St. Peters and Woking Hospitals. Assist modality areas in maintaining an efficient daily work list and patient workflow. Use Radiology IT systems to manage appointments, diaries, and notes. Prepare patients for diagnostic examinations, ensuring correct patient identification, confidentiality and data protection. Utilize moving and handling aids to reduce risk of injury. Assist Radiologist, Specialist Sonographers, Cytology and Physiotherapists in interventional procedures in Ultrasound and Fluoroscopy. Set up procedure trolleys for guided injections, aspirations, biopsies and other procedures using aseptic technique. Assist cytology during fine needle aspirations, prepare slides, assist during procedures and label slides for pathology testing. Monitor patients’ blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen saturation before and after CT procedures and alert nursing staff of concerns. Be able to act in a crash scenario and understand your role in this situation. Ensure aftercare is given to the patient, complete post-scan/procedure paperwork, and save checklists in the documents file on Cris. Organise patient transport to and from examinations; support compassionate patient care with attention to privacy and dignity; report suspicions of abuse to the manager or safeguarding team; maintain diversity and inclusion, and protect patient belongings.
To clean after a procedure and prepare the room for the next examination. Follow training to cannulate patients for CT scanning contrast examinations. Undertake routine clinical duties when required, including simple wound dressings and removal of peripheral cannula. Follow departmental protocols to maintain clinical practice and general housekeeping, including cleanliness of equipment and accessories. Follow policies to prevent infections; fill out daily checklists to document this.
To clean ultrasound machines daily and weekly, keep patient waiting areas and changing cubicles tidy, ensure gowns are available, maintain cleanliness in all patient areas, and ensure beds and equipment are cleaned between patient use as per IPC guidelines. Adhere to IPC and Covid infection control guidelines. Work to reduce waste and use equipment and consumables responsibly. Undertake mandatory training and support training/induction for new staff when requested. Abide by uniform policy and carry out other duties within the scope of the job when requested by the Department Manager. Communicate with clinical teams and patients, report incidents, accidents, concerns, near misses or complaints, and maintain patient confidentiality. Build good working relationships with the Radiology team and trust staff to deliver quality service.
General / Other Duties: Work cross-site at our 3 departments in Chertsey, Ashford and Woking and participate in a 7-day service. Maintain stock levels and drugs for CT, Ultrasound, x-ray and fluoroscopy, ensuring documentation is completed. Monitor quality of work, check attending patients on CRIS, and comply with Trust and departmental policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines. Be aware of IRMER regulations and patient/staff safety; participate in clinical governance, service improvement, and audits. Participate in one-to-one meetings and PDR/appraisal; pursue continuing professional development; maintain emergency resuscitation, manual handling and fire safety competency. Attend mandatory Trust training and support diversity and inclusion initiatives. Ensure behavior aligns with Trust responsibilities and comply with health, safety, employment, and finance law. Work within governance and ethical NHS frameworks.
