Overview
The post holder is the Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children within the Trust. He/she is responsible for providing advice and support to all nursing, midwifery and community public health nursing staff on matters relating to Safeguarding, meeting the Trust’s child protection policy requirements. His/her role will be to ensure good, safe clinical practice in safeguarding matters by ensuring that staff that work with children are aware of and trained to carry out their responsibilities in this area. She/he will aim to enhance multidisciplinary working and will be available to advise senior managers about safeguarding matters relating to all disciplines. She/he is responsible for managing the Safeguarding Children Nurse Specialist Team in order to ensure that nurses and midwives have access to advice and support regarding safeguarding concerns.
Responsibilities
* Ensures that own and other Nurse’s/Midwives practice in safeguarding, adheres to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, Children (N.I.) Order and appropriate related codes of practice and guidelines.
* Reports any matters falling below agreed standards to the appropriate line manager and develops and monitors agreed action plans to address identified issues in partnership with Nurse Managers.
Qualifications
* Registered Specialist Community Public Health Nurse on Part 3 of the live NMC register or have worked as a Band 7 Safeguarding Nurse Specialist on Part 1 of the live NMC register for a minimum of 3 years in the last 5 years.
* Hold a University degree and worked for at least 3 years in a senior role in Children and Young People’s Services or have worked for at least 5 years in a senior role in Children and Young People’s Services.
