The team and role
The UK Portfolio Underwriting team is a core part of Hiscox UK, focusing on analytics and business insights to guide underwriting decisions. The team reports to the UK Chief Underwriting Officer and collaborates with various departments including Underwriting, Distribution, Operations, Marketing, Reserving, and Finance.
As a Senior Portfolio Underwriting Analyst, you'll manage stakeholder relationships, present technical information, and influence portfolio strategies across high net worth, motor, SME commercial, and specialty lines. Your role is pivotal in shaping the performance and profitability of Hiscox UK’s portfolio.
Key responsibilities include:
* Designing and implementing portfolio underwriting changes to meet volume and profitability targets.
* Collaborating with stakeholders, presenting findings, and managing conflicting priorities.
* Producing portfolio management reports and analyzing market trends.
* Maintaining underwriting systems and rules, testing changes, and ensuring compliance with regulations and Hiscox values.
* Supporting technological advancements and providing expert reviews on large risks.
* Mentoring junior analysts and taking accountability for underwriting recommendations and model performance.
Person Specification:
We seek a highly analytical, driven individual with at least 3 years’ experience, strong statistical and data analysis skills (Excel, SQL), excellent communication, and a commercial mindset. Experience in insurance, stakeholder engagement, and problem solving are essential.
