Grade AMN2: £48,288 to £68,710 per annum


CMVM / MGPHS / USHER Institute / Edinburgh BioQuarter


Full-time: 40 hours per week


Fixed-term: available from 1 st September 2025 to 31 st August 2028

The Opportunity

This post is fully funded for 3 years and provides an opportunity to obtain a PhD. The project will enable the candidate to develop unique skills in complex linked data handling, geospatial analysis and qualitative interviewing in the field of cancer prevention and will contribute to national work on stratified bowel cancer screening.

Through expertise within an associated Cancer Research UK programme grant and the Cancer in Primary Care Research Group within the Usher Institute the candidate will engage with a national and international network of cancer researchers – and nurtured to fulfil their academic potential, facilitating progression to a competitive post-doctoral fellowship. Ultimately, the intention is for the candidate become a leading clinical academic within Scotland focused on cancer prevention. This research will be published in high impact journals and presented at international conferences. The candidate will have opportunities to work with the UK National Screening Committee and Scotland’s Screening Oversight Group in implementing changes to improve bowel cancer screening within Scotland based on the findings from this work.

Your Skills And Attributes For Success


* A medical degree in any discipline with full GMC registration.
* Sufficient research experience to embark on a programme of PhD research (masters or equivalent).
* A critical thinker with the level of skills appropriate to embarking on a PhD.
* Excellent organisational skills.
* Ability to work flexibly in a large multi-disciplinary team.
