24 Hour Porter – Emergency Department
Position within the Portering Services Department at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, Wrexham Maelor Hospital ED Department.
Job Overview
This is a permanent, part‑time role (15 hours per week) working 2 days on a 24‑hour rota, including nights, weekends and bank holidays. The porter will respond to requests for movement of patients and goods, providing efficient and timely service using both manual and mechanical aids.
Responsibilities
* Move patients and goods safely and efficiently within the ED and other hospital areas.
* Lift, transfer, push and pull substantial weights with assistance from mechanical aids where required.
* Assist in emergency situations, including rapid transfer of patients.
* Collect and deliver samples, medicines, meal trolleys, linen, goods and mail.
* Work as part of a team and use own initiative to handle unpredictable workload and external influences such as weather and patient capacity.
Qualifications & Experience
* Essential Criteria:
o Good standard of secondary education.
o Ability to work weekends and bank holidays.
o Ability to travel within the geographical area.
o Able to cope with distressing situations.
o Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
* Desirable Criteria:
o Experience in a similar post.
o Knowledge of a hospital environment.
o NVQ Level 2 in customer service.
o Ability to speak Welsh (English speakers are equally welcome).
o Experience with mechanical movers and stairwell climbers (if applicable).
