A client within the Public Sector based in Devon is currently recruiting for a Business Rates Officer to join their Revenues and Recovery Team as soon as possible. The client is offering a full time, temporary position on a short-term basis to cover sickness, with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority within a Revenues and Business Rates environment. The Role The key purpose of the role is to maintain and safeguard the Council’s Business Rates base through establishing liability, billing, collection, and enforcement, while providing detailed advice and information to customers. Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to: Assess liability for Business Rates and issue accurate bills, applying all relevant reliefs and exemptions. Maintain the accuracy of the Rating and Valuation Lists, liaising with the Valuation Office Agency to process amendments and schedules promptly. Deal with customer enquiries by email, telephone, letter, and online correspondence, ensuring a polite and professional service at all times. Promote payment by Direct Debit and ensure all activities maximise revenue collection. Process NNDR schedules including interest calculations. Support enforcement activity including referral of cases to enforcement agents and advising on recovery options. Undertake proactive checks on empty properties and liaise with internal teams and external stakeholders as required. Assist with projects and service improvements to enhance efficiency and service delivery. The Candidate To be considered for this role you will require: Minimum 5 GCSEs including Maths and English or equivalent work experience. Experience working within a Revenues or Business Rates environment. Familiarity with NEC Northgate Revenues system and NNDR processing. The below skills would be beneficial for the role: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Strong attention to detail and ability to interpret complex legislation. Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively. Competent in Microsoft Office and electronic document management systems. Experience dealing with customers via telephone and written correspondence. The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering £17 per hour Umbrella LTD Inside IR35 (approx. £14 per hour PAYE). This role is fully remote, though flexibility to attend the office in Totnes or Tavistock may be required occasionally.
