We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person who is able to cover a variety of shifts to join the Acute Medical Unit in a ward clerk role.
Our admin team is made up of a Team Leader and there are 18 members of our friendly dedicated ward clerk admin staff and 4 patient flow coordinators.
About the Role
The AMU deals with approximately 34,500 referrals per year and is an exciting and stimulating place to work. You will deal with referrals from the GP’s, paramedics and ED, admitting patients onto the ward and dealing with their subsequent pathway through the hospital.
You must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a pleasant telephone manner. It is essential that you have the ability to interact with patients calmly, sensitively and efficiently both on the telephone and in person.
You must be able to use your own initiative, prioritising your workload to meet the changing needs of the department, as AMU is a high pressure fast paced environment.

Key to this role is a requirement to cover periods of annual leave and sickness of colleagues
Working Pattern: 15 hours per week. shifts to be arranged 4 weeks in advance. This is a peripatetic role and therefore there is no shift pattern – the hours will be agreed with the Admin Team Leader in advance and could cover 0800-1600, 0900-1700, 1600-2200, 1700-2200, 2200-0800, 2300-0600.
Preference will be given to staff with ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon.
