Are you passionate about supporting young people and helping create a positive learning environment? We are seeking a committed, enthusiastic and adaptable Cover Supervisor to join our dedicated team at Ysgol Bro Hyddgen.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience working with children or young people who is confident managing classroom behaviour and supporting pupils to remain engaged in learning during teacher absences.
About the Role
As a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise whole classes during the short-term absence of teachers, ensuring pupils remain on task with pre-set work. You will help maintain a calm, productive and inclusive learning environment while promoting positive behaviour and independence.
We are particularly interested in candidates who are confident engaging with pupils through sports and physical activities and who are willing to support PE lessons and wider sporting opportunities within the school community.
Duties will include:
1. Supervising classes undertaking pre-prepared work
2. Managing classroom behaviour effectively
3. Supporting pupil engagement and inclusion
4. Responding to pupil questions appropriately
5. Reporting back to teaching staff on pupil progress and behaviour
6. Assisting with routine administrative tasks and basic marking
7. Supporting the wider ethos and values of the school
This role does not involve active teaching; however, strong communication, organisation and classroom management skills are essential.
We Are Looking For Someone Who:
8. Has experience working with children or young people
9. Has excellent behaviour management and interpersonal skills
10. Can work confidently and independently
11. Is proactive, flexible and a strong team player
12. Has a commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
13. Holds GCSEs (or equivalent) in English, Maths and Welsh (where required), or an NVQ Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification/equivalent experience
14. Has Welsh language skills — essential for this role
15. First Aid training and additional curriculum support training are desirable.
