An Outstanding-rated secondary school in Gloucester is seeking an experienced and committed SENCO to join its senior leadership structure from ASAP. This is a key leadership role within the school, responsible for driving inclusive practice, ensuring high-quality provision for pupils with additional needs, and maintaining full compliance with statutory SEND requirements. The successful candidate will build on an already well-established SEND framework and continue to raise standards across identification, intervention, and pupil support. The Role Leading and developing the school’s SEND provision across KS3 and KS4 (with KS5 where applicable) Overseeing the identification, assessment, and monitoring of pupils with additional needs Managing EHCP processes, annual reviews, and external agency coordination Line managing teaching assistants and SEND support staff Working closely with parents, carers, and external professionals Ensuring full compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and safeguarding legislation Supporting staff through training and development to promote inclusive classroom practice Monitoring the impact of interventions and reporting to senior leaders and Governors Contributing to whole-school strategic planning as part of the leadership team The Ideal Candidate Will Have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) The National Award for SEN Coordination (or willingness to complete) Proven experience leading or contributing to SEND provision in a secondary setting Strong knowledge of statutory SEND frameworks and compliance requirements Excellent communication and leadership skills The ability to balance strategic oversight with hands-on pupil support A calm, empathetic, and organised leadership style School Information This Outstanding secondary school in Gloucester is recognised for its strong academic outcomes, clear behaviour systems, and supportive leadership.
