Job Overview The Band 3 Receptionist will provide a professional, welcoming and efficient front‑of‑house service within the Urology Diagnostic Unit at St Albans City Hospital. The post‑holder will be the first point of contact for patients, visitors and clinical staff, ensuring a smooth patient journey from arrival to departure.
Key Responsibilities
Welcome patients, check identification and referral details, and admit them at the front desk.
Register and record patient information, either manually or in the Trust electronic system.
Coordinate appointment times and manage patient flow in close liaison with clinical teams.
Respond promptly to schedule changes or urgent clinical needs.
Handle telephone enquiries, provide clear information and signpost patients appropriately.
Prepare clinic lists and manage incoming correspondence.
Scan and upload documents, and maintain records in compliance with Trust policies.
Maintain a safe, clean and professional reception area, report any issues and manage stock of administrative materials.
Uphold Trust values, ensure confidentiality and maintain a patient‑focused environment.
Qualifications & Experience
Educated to GCSE level or relevant job experience.
Previous NHS administrative role and experience working in a changing environment.
Working knowledge of hospital computer systems (Patient Centre, Infoflex).
Strong organisational and communication skills.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment.
