About Vateris
Vateris is a climate-tech company developing carbon-to-materials technologies for the construction industry. Our technology permanently mineralises captured CO₂ into high-performance materials that enable major cement reduction while maintaining or improving concrete performance.
Backed by investors including Holcim and GOLDBECK, Vateris is now preparing for the next stage of industrial scale-up.
We are planning delivery of a ~£15 million demonstration plant from Q4 2026 onwards and are looking for exceptional technical talent with highly relevant industrial backgrounds to help scale the technology toward commercial deployment.
The Role
We are seeking a highly capable Senior Process Chemist to lead optimisation and industrialisation of our carbon mineralisation process.
This is not a purely academic research role. We are specifically looking for candidates with strong industrial experience in scalable chemical processes and real-world manufacturing environments.
The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, operations and scale-up teams as we transition toward demonstration and commercial plant deployment.
Responsibilities
* Lead optimisation of CO₂ mineralisation and precipitation processes
* Develop robust, scalable and reproducible chemical operations
* Support pilot plant operation and future demonstration plant scale-up
* Investigate reaction kinetics, impurities, process variability and operational stability
* Work closely with process engineers and plant operations teams
* Develop SOPs, operating envelopes and process control strategies
* Analyse plant and laboratory data to improve performance and reliability
* Support techno-economic optimisation and industrial feedstock integration
* Contribute to patent generation and technical documentation
Requirements
* PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or a related discipline from a top 5 UK university or equivalent leading European institution, or equivalent industrial experience in a highly relevant field
* Typically 5+ years of industrial experience in process chemistry, chemical manufacturing, pilot plants or industrial scale-up environments
* Strong understanding of industrial/process chemistry and scalable chemical operations
* Experience working with precipitation, crystallisation, slurry systems, mineral processing or related process chemistries
* Practical problem-solving mindset with the ability to troubleshoot technical and operational challenges
* Comfortable working in pilot plant, demonstration plant or industrial manufacturing settings
* Ability to work effectively in a fast-moving and collaborative scale-up environment
* Strong communication and teamwork skills across multidisciplinary technical teams
Highly Desirable
* Experience from industries such as specialty chemicals, industrial minerals, fertilisers, carbon capture, hydrometallurgy or other process industries
* Experience supporting scale-up, commissioning or optimisation of industrial chemical processes
* Experience in startups, scale-up companies or fast-growth industrial environments
* Ability to translate laboratory development into robust industrial operation
