Arup's Climate and Sustainability Services team comprises a broad range of specialisms. Within this, the Environment team coordinates and manages design input and Impact Assessments, working with various technical disciplines on a wide range of development types. The team has expertise in environmental impact assessment (EIA), strategic environmental assessment (SEA), health impact assessment (HIA), and integrated impact assessment (IIA). The Opportunity: The position is for an Environmental Consultant based in our Belfast Office. The role focuses on coordinating environmental input to design activities, embedding sustainable project outcomes, and delivering impact assessments across Northern Ireland and the UK, particularly for major infrastructure in transport, water, and energy sectors. Clients include private developers, public sector authorities, and other organizations.
You will work in a multidisciplinary team alongside environmental, planning, engineering, and urban design specialists to deliver high-quality environment and sustainability consultancy services. Your responsibilities include technical work, proposal preparation, and marketing activities. You will be accountable for driving a holistic approach to design for positive environmental outcomes, supporting assessment process management, reviewing technical inputs, writing environmental reports (including EIA screening letters, scoping reports, Environmental Statements), and ensuring compliance with EIA regulations.

Is this role right for you? We are interested in candidates with:
* Education to degree level in a relevant subject.
* Chartered membership (or working towards Chartership) of an appropriate institute (e.g., IEMA).
* Project exposure in Energy, Water, or Transport sectors is desirable.
* Experience with EIA in Northern Ireland, UK, and familiarity with UK regimes (DCO, hybrid Bill).
* Knowledge of carbon and sustainability assessment tools (e.g., BREEAM) is desirable.
