Job Description:
An exciting opportunity for a social work post in Family Safeguarding West with a primary focus on Private Fostering has become available. We are seeking an enthusiastic social work practitioner who is excited by the opportunity to support and safeguard children in private fostering arrangements, including those coming into the UK as Ukrainian refugees. The role will be situated within Family Safeguarding West (based in Bognor Regis) but the successful candidate will predominantly be supporting children and their private foster carers across West Sussex. The role will involve responding to new notifications when a child is placed in a private fostering arrangement by assessing the needs of the child and suitability of a private foster carer and their home environment. You will have your own caseload of children subject of private fostering regulations, and any other intervention they need. You will also undertake the carer assessments and private fostering visits on children allocated to other social workers if their arrangements become private fostering and therefore the role will require good cooperation with the child’s Social Worker to ensure that the placement is suitable for their needs and considers their wishes and feelings. These arrangements will need to be visited and reviewed as per statutory guidance to ensure that they continue to be suitable and safe arrangements for the child. In this role, you will be actively involved in improving and promoting our private fostering service by ensuring that our responsibilities to children and their carers are fulfilled in a timely way. You will be offering consultation and support to Social Workers across Children’s Social Care to improve their identification of private fostering and raise awareness.
The candidate needs:
1. To be an experienced worker with at least 2/3 years experience in a family safeguarding team.
2. Recent Front line – child protection work
3. Good assessment skills that are able to identify risk
4. Direct work with children to be able to identify their needs
5. Good multi agency working experience
Special Requirements:
The candidate must be a car driver and be happy to drive around the county to fulfil the role requirement.
