The Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) team have a unique opportunity for a band PD Nurse to join our established team in the PD unit. Full-time post. You would be based at the Churchill Hospital and within the community, visiting patients at home. Work across sites at time (Jhon Radcliffe, NOC).
You would work in a small team, work independently and be flexible. The PD unit is a nurse led service.
You would be responsible for teaching patients how to be self-caring on peritoneal dialysis (adult learning theories), reviewing patients in their home ensuring that their treatment is going well and managing complications.

The successful candidate will be treating and supporting patients and their family to manage their long-term condition, thus good assessment skills are vital. Some of the work is also carried out over the phone therefore excellent communication skills are a necessity.
Main duties of the job Overview
A key member of the Oxford Kidney Unit Peritoneal Dialysis Team. The role focuses on providing comprehensive support, education, training, and guidance to patients requiring home-based treatment for chronic renal failure.
Patient Care and Caseload Management
The post-holder is accountable for managing a caseload of patients who undergo dialysis at home. This involves ensuring that each patient receives an optimal amount of dialysis and maintains a high standard of treatment and care, whether in the community or within the hospital setting.
Collaboration with Health Care Professionals
Collaboration is essential in this role, requiring close work with the multidisciplinary team, the primary health care team, and external agencies, such as suppliers of necessary products. The aim is to adopt a holistic approach to caring for patients receiving home therapies.
Support for Hospitalised Patients
Support is provided to peritoneal dialysis patients who are admitted to hospital, specifically at the John Radcliffe (JR) and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre (NOC). Additionally, ongoing support is extended to patients on the renal and transplant ward.
Quality Improvement and Audit Participation
The role involves active engagement in quality improvement projects related to patient care and treatment processes. Furthermore, participation in the audit process, with a particular focus on monitoring infection rates, forms a key part of the responsibilities.
