Band 2 Support Services Caretaker
Location: Shannon Clinic, KHCP
Pay: £ per hour basic and enhanced rate for Sat & Sun
Hours: - 16:00 4 days per week including weekends
Job Purpose
We are seeking a reliable and proactive Support Services Caretaker to support the smooth day-to-day running of the Shannon Clinic. The post holder will report to the Operational Manager and work closely with the Centre Manager, ensuring a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
Key Responsibilities
Mail & Stores
1. Distribute and collect mail throughout the centre
2. Sort and frank mail for post office collection
3. Manage franking machine credit and departmental accounts
4. Receive, issue, and distribute stores, laundry, goods, and equipment
5. Operate the materials management system to order and store stock
Portering & General Duties
6. Manage waste streams including domestic, confidential, clinical waste, and sharps
7. Collect clinical samples and deliver to reception
8. Set up conference rooms and ensure audio-visual equipment is functioning
9. Move furniture and equipment as required
10. Assist with internal and external garden maintenance
11. Act as contact point for deliveries at reception airlock
Cleaning & Hygiene
12. Respond to spillages, including body fluids
13. Carry out scheduled and ad-hoc cleaning tasks
14. Shampoo carpets, clean bin areas, and manage waste
15. Monitor contractor cleaning work, such as window cleaning
16. Maintain cleanliness and tidiness throughout the facility
Car Park & External Areas
17. Clear debris, broken glass, and litter
18. Empty bins and remove cigarette waste
19. Grit pathways and clear snow during adverse weather
Curtains & Screens
20. Remove, label, and re-hang curtains and screens as required
Minor Maintenance
21. Carry out basic maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs and batteries, unblocking sinks and toilets, and adjusting lighting
22. Identify, isolate, and report faulty or leaking equipment
Security
23. Act as a key holder for the building
24. Respond to alarms and liaise with contractors
25. Open and secure the building and set alarms
26. Report suspicious activity where necessary
27. Ensure fire exits and walkways are kept clear
28. Escort visitors and contractors in line with agreed protocols
IT & Fire Safety
29. Troubleshoot basic IT issues and liaise with the IT department
30. Assist the Centre Manager with fire safety procedures, including evacuations
Health, Safety & Environment
31. Contribute to a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff
32. Report or rectify hazards and ensure safety signage is in place
Other Duties
33. Undertake additional duties as directed by the Supervisor or Operational Manager
Essential Criteria
34. Relevant experience essential
35. Basic literacy and numeracy skills
Desirable Criteria
36. Experience working within a health and social care environment
Additional Information
Applicants must meet the essential criteria to be shortlisted. Enhanced Access NI clearance will be required.
