The Position
NHS Orkney is looking for a flexible, enthusiastic Registered Midwife to join our Integrated Midwifery team, recently awarded the ‘Midwife Award’ at the Scottish Health Awards 2021.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will have a high level of autonomy across the whole range of maternity care, including community settings, the midwife‑led unit providing antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal and triage/day care. The model also includes support from local obstetricians and access to tertiary obstetric care predominantly in Aberdeen. The postholder will hold their own caseload, working alongside women, their families and the multidisciplinary team in a continuity of carer model in line with the Best Start ambitions. The role requires flexible working covering day and night rotation over a seven‑day week, including on‑call and air ambulance transfer duties.
Candidate Requirements
Must be a registered midwife with full UK NMC registration, completion of the Flying Start programme, and experience of all aspects of midwifery care.
Location, Working Pattern and Contract Duration
The post will be based at The Balfour. The role is fixed‑term for 12 months to cover maternity leave, with various hours and flexible rotation, including on‑call duties. The successful candidate must live and remain a resident within the UK.
Benefits and Salary
