Job Description:
Summary
You will provide technical expertise, support, and guidance in research support. You may supervise technical staff and act as a role model and coach others. You need an in-depth understanding of research questions, techniques, and protocols to advise, diagnose, and resolve issues. Flexibility to work outside normal hours may be required.
Main Duties
* Collect EEG data from patients
* Perform manual and automated EEG preprocessing scripts
* Assist in managing experimental laboratories
* Advise on techniques and procedures, communicate with colleagues and students
* Diagnose and resolve technical and experimental problems
* Carry out specialist procedures, assess techniques, and suggest improvements
* Maintain accurate records of techniques, procedures, and results
* Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and regulations
Health and Safety duties
* Support health and safety in the laboratory, including equipment safety and waste disposal
* Train staff on equipment safety
* Maintain safety records and reports
* Potentially undergo training as a First Aider or Fire Warden
General Administration and Organisation
* Keep records accurate and up-to-date
* Maintain stocks and generate purchase requisitions
* Ensure facilities are safe and well-maintained
* Participate in energy-saving and carbon reduction initiatives
Other Duties
* Train and mentor junior staff
* Support diversity and equality
* Perform other reasonable duties as required
Required Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience
* Relevant experience or qualification in a scientific or technical field
* GCSEs in mathematics and English or equivalent
* Practical knowledge of technical and scientific methods
* Experience with laboratory equipment and procedures
* Positive attitude, courtesy, and teamwork skills
* Organisational and flexible working skills
* Knowledge of relevant legislation and health & safety policies
* Proficiency in common software packages
* Understanding of equality and diversity principles
