Neway International are seeking a Trading Standards Investigator to join our client Nottinghamshire County Council.
Location: Loughborough Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham, NG2 7QP
Hours: 22 per week
Start Date: 16 March 2026
Duration: 52 Weeks
Work Pattern: 2 days remote, 1 day in the office (subject to change)
About the Client
Nottinghamshire County Council’s Trading Standards and Communities service protects residents, supports businesses, and enforces legislation to ensure fair trading, consumer safety and community wellbeing. The team undertakes investigations, compliance checks, enforcement activity and project-based work across the county.
The Role
The Trading Standards Investigator will support project-based enforcement and investigation work within the Trading Standards team. You will assist in gathering evidence, conducting enquiries, supporting inspections, and contributing to enforcement activity across a range of Trading Standards functions. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently within a regulatory environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Support Trading Standards investigations, including evidence gathering, interviews and case preparation.
* Assist officers with inspections, compliance checks and project-based enforcement activity.
* Record, analyse and maintain accurate case information in line with legal and procedural requirements.
* Engage with businesses, consumers and partner agencies to support fair trading and consumer protection.
* Contribute to project work focused on specific areas of Trading Standards enforcement.
* Support the preparation of reports, statements and documentation for potential legal proceedings.
* Work in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and enforcement protocols.
Candidate Requirements
* Experience in regulatory, enforcement, investigative or compliance-based work desirable.
* Strong analytical, organisational and evidence-gathering skills.
* Ability to communicate professionally with businesses, consumers and partner agencies.
* Confident working independently and managing competing priorities.
* Good IT skills and ability to maintain accurate records.
* Knowledge of Trading Standards legislation beneficial but not essential.
* Ability to work flexibly across remote and office-based settings.
