Position: Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor
Location: South Cumbria
Overview:
We are recruiting on behalf of a leading facilities management company for experienced Quantity Surveyors (QS) and Senior Quantity Surveyors (SQS) to support major capital projects across high-security and complex infrastructure sites in South Cumbria.
This is a fantastic opportunity for commercially astute professionals with a strong background in nuclear, oil & gas, or similarly regulated sectors. Candidates must hold or be eligible for SC clearance and either be local to the area or happy to travel.
Project Value: £50m–£100m+
Key Responsibilities:
Commercial Management
* Manage commercial performance across assigned projects
* Control project costs including forecasting, budgeting, and reporting
* Analyse and prepare tender returns and contract documentation
Contract Management
* Draft and negotiate contracts with clients and subcontractors
* Ensure full compliance with all contractual obligations
* Handle variations, claims, and final accounts
Procurement
* Develop procurement strategies aligned with project goals
* Select and appoint subcontractors in line with quality and budget requirements
Risk Management
* Identify and mitigate commercial and contractual risks
* Conduct detailed risk and value analysis
Team & Stakeholder Engagement
* Mentor and guide junior QS staff where required
* Collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
Reporting
* Deliver accurate cost and value reports
* Maintain robust records and progress updates
Candidate Requirements:
Qualifications:
* Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field
* RICS or CIOB membership desirable
Experience:
* Strong background in commercial roles within nuclear, oil & gas, or high-security environments
* Knowledge of NEC3/4 and other standard forms of contract
Skills & Attributes:
* Excellent numerical, communication, and negotiation skills
* High attention to detail and strong organizational capability
* Ability to work independently and under pressure
* Proficient in cost management systems and reporting tools
Additional Information:
Reports to: Head of Commercial
Clearance: SC clearance is mandatory (must be held or obtainable)
