EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
Our Customer Operations team has an opportunity for you to join as one of our new Ecologists.
We're seeking multiple ecologists, so if you're open to opportunities in different counties, your application may be considered for those positions as well. Just let us know in your application.
You’ll support our Biodiversity and Ecology Team, working closely with Senior Ecologists and the wider business to provide ecological advice and guidance, including Biodiversity Net Gain application.
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
1. Assessing ecological risks and opportunities in asset design, construction, and maintenance.
2. Developing strategies for avoiding/mitigating harm in scheme design and delivery.
3. Ensuring licenses and controls meet species and habitat obligations.
4. Providing technical input into standards, guidance, and training to support biodiversity protection and enhancement on our sites and in the wider landscape, ensuring company compliance.
5. Undertaking ecological field surveys, including acting as Ecological Clerk of Works, performing site inspections, surveys, and other ecological tasks.
6. Ensuring ecological data is collected, stored, maintained, and analyzed to inform future developments and opportunities.
7. Managing daily contact with ecological contractors.
8. Supporting incident response with technical ecological expertise and advice.
9. Building good relationships with agencies like the Environment Agency and Natural England to develop collaborative habitat and species gains and risk mitigation strategies.
10. Supporting R&D into innovative ecological delivery methods within Severn Trent Water and across water companies.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE
We seek ecologists with knowledge of species and habitat conservation challenges, policies, and legislation. Licenses for at least one protected species are preferred.
You should have a relevant degree in ecology or a related field, and be a member (or working towards membership) of a professional body. Knowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain application and experience with environmental policy frameworks in England and Wales are desirable.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office, and GIS systems like UKHAB are required.
