Band 6 Deputy Training Lead

The closing date is 24 February 2026

Recognised as one of the largest NHS Trusts -- University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) is at the forefront of care within our communities. We provide healthcare services to over 1.8 million residents across Birmingham, Solihull and beyond.

The landscape of UHB continues to evolve. Our new Elective Hub at Solihull Hospital recently opened, Heartlands Treatment Centre is now fully operational, and our services continue to expand at Good Hope and QE. With progress comes opportunity. As we strengthen our workforce to support our service we have ensured our colleagues are trained and developed within their roles.

Applications for HCPC registered Specialist Biomedical Scientists are now invited to the posts of Deputy Training Lead within the Haematology Department. The roles are available at Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Heartlands Hospital.

As an integral part of the leadership team you implement, deliver and develop first class training to ensure the competency and maintenance of learning throughout the department.

As our colleagues look to you for knowledge, guidance and support, you in turn will live and breathe our values to ensure they are secure in the delivery of their duties and comfortable to discuss any requirements or concerns they may have.

Main duties of the job

Due to the nature of this role, it is essential that you have an understanding of specialist healthcare science activities acquired through additional training or knowledge to postgraduate level or equivalent e.g., Post registration specialist competency portfolio. Evidence of continuing professional development in accordance with HCPC guidelines will be requested at the interview stage so ensure to bring this along with you. You will support the Training leads with training activities, inductions and portfolio work. There are 2 posts available, one based at QEH and one based at BHH, but there will be a future requirement to work across all sites that are part of UHB.

We have identified that you may not entirely possess the desirable requirements of the role and we are therefore supporting this Deputy Training Lead as a developmental role, where the successful candidate will be given the opportunity and support to complete the IBMS Certificate of Expert Practice in Training.

Haematology is part of Pathology Services providing a patient focused quality service that is committed to the trust vision of 'Building Healthier lives'

If you are motivated by what you have read, you have the experience to make a difference and have a passion to provide the absolute best care to our patients and support our colleagues, we would love to hear from you. You can simply apply via this advert or drop us an email at mohammed.akhtar@uhb.nhs.uk or yvonne.elliott@uhb.nhs.uk.
