What you need to know about the role
We are looking for a skilled and dependable Welder to join our rail maintenance workshop. The role focuses on carrying out high-quality welding and fabrication work on rail components and associated equipment, including heavy section materials, ensuring all work meets required safety and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform welding and fabrication tasks on rail components and equipment, including thick section steel (20–50mm)
* Select and apply the correct welding processes for heavy materials (MIG, Stick, Flux-Cored, TIG where required)
* Weld in all positions including horizontal, vertical, and overhead
* Read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
* Ensure all work is completed to a high standard and within deadlines
* Carry out basic inspections and quality checks on completed work
* Maintain welding equipment and ensure safe operation at all times
* Adhere strictly to health and safety procedures
What we need to know about you
* Proven welding experience on thick section steel (20–50mm)
* Strong understanding of appropriate weld procedures for heavy materials
* Experience with MIG, Stick, and Flux-Cored welding (TIG advantageous)
* Ability to weld in all positions (horizontal, vertical, overhead)
* Air arc gouging experience advantageous
* Ability to read and work from technical drawings
* Experience in a workshop or industrial environment
* Good understanding of health and safety practices
* Relevant welding qualifications/certifications (required)
* Strong attention to detail
* Reliable and self-motivated
* Able to work independently and as part of a team
