Key Objectives:
1. Lead on the preparation and assessment of sites for the Trust’s Biodiversity Net Gain programme.
2. Lead on protected species management at the Trust.
3. Develop and manage a protected species management system within the Trust’s GIS.
4. Provide specialist ecological advice on protected species to support the Operations and Property teams.
Biodiversity Net Gain
* Identify potential Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) sites through the delivery of preliminary surveys and commissioning of independent assessments.
* Use the Statutory Metric to model habitat uplift opportunities aligned with the Trust’s strategic objectives for nature.
* Be the key point of liaison between developers’ ecologists and the Nature Services Team on the design of on-site BNG where the land will transfer to the Trust.
* Use a BNG asset management system to allocate and track sites, units sold, and obligations.
* Prepare and deliver annual reports on BNG and biodiversity ecology.
Protected Species
* Develop and deliver the protected species survey programme (badgers, great crested newts, bats and barn owls).
* Manage the relationship with ecological contractors to support delivery of protected species survey programme.
* Be the Trust’s ecological ‘intelligent client’ on development projects, liaising between project teams and appointed ecologists for the project.
* Develop and implement protocols to improve protected species management and mitigate risk from operational activities.
* Be a ‘Nature Services Specialist’ in relation to protected species, to provide technical advice to Operations and Property teams and inform monitoring schemes.
* Provide preliminary advice on the Trust’s development projects, identifying and communicating all ecological risks and considerations for protected species.
Other
* Issue and manage licenses from external ecologist requests to survey Parks Trust land.
* Support monitoring programs within the wider team by undertaking surveys independently or with team members
* When required, represent the Trust in external partnerships, forums and at events, acting as an advocate for the organisation, and promoting its biodiversity work and conservation volunteer programme.
* Contribute to the Trust’s public engagement programme to increase awareness and understanding of Biodiversity for example: guided walks, talks, blogs and articles, in coordination with the relevant communications and events teams
