Senior/Principal Civil Design Engineer (Water) — Permanent — Bristol
We are seeking a talented and motivated Senior/Principal Civil Engineer to join the team delivering outline design and detailed specifications for water and wastewater treatment schemes. This role offers a collaborative environment with a workload that is diverse and challenging.
Responsibilities
* Act as Lead Design Engineer within the water team on infrastructure and/or non-infrastructure projects.
* Deliver and check design solutions and outputs, coordinate with other disciplines, and provide technical guidance, support, and training to colleagues.
* Mentor and develop assistant engineers and graduates.
* Contribute from conception to completion: clarify project brief, agree deliverables and milestones, establish project methodology, and implement quality assurance and control strategies.
* Set up project checking and approval arrangements; lead internal start-up meetings; undertake significant elements of detailed design and output checks (calculations, drawings, sketches, reports) to achieve optimal project solutions.
* Document and communicate design changes to the Project Manager; manage time, cost, and quality requirements; participate in close-out meetings and recommend improvements to policies and processes.
* Support business development activities, including capability statements and responses to pre-qualification questionnaires, expressions of interest, and tenders; build and maintain client relationships to win work.
Qualifications
* Chartered Engineer status with a relevant institution (eg ICE or CIWEM).
* Strong interpersonal and team-working skills; ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organisation, clients, and contractors, both verbally and in writing.
* Comprehensive knowledge and experience in water and wastewater non-infrastructure design, including integration of multidisciplinary elements such as process engineering and MEICA.
* Extensive experience in design, contract and tender preparation, tender assessment, and contract administration.
