Band 7 Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist
University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join an innovative SLT team at Good Hope Hospital, leading specialist input for patients with swallowing and communication difficulties within acute respiratory medicine.

The role involves advanced assessment and treatment of patients on acute respiratory units, including ITU step‑down, with highly complex needs. The incumbent will determine diagnoses, identify appropriate SLT treatment, and provide direct line management to the team. Responsibilities also include delivering specialist level training in suitable clinical areas, supporting service development of respiratory services, and participating in weekend on‑call service for inpatients across Heartlands and Good Hope Hospitals.
Working within a large, supportive and experienced service, you will have access to regular videofluoroscopy and FEES clinics, robust supervision, appraisal, and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications
* Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
* Health Professions Council licence to practice
* Registered Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
* Evidence of relevant postgraduate training in a specialist area
* Postgraduate advanced accredited dysphagia training
Experience
* Relevant postgraduate experience in key specialist areas relevant to the post
* Experience of managing adults with complex swallowing or communication needs
* Experience of involvement in VF or FEES clinic
* Experience of supervising SLT students at clinical tutor and supervisor levels
* Experience of leading audit
* Experience of training staff groups at all levels
* Evidence of working effectively in partnership with others within multidisciplinary teams and across agencies
* Experience of staff management
* Experience of conducting or being involved in research in the specialist area
