Job Summary
Lead Clinician at Newmedica Lincolnshire. Experienced registered health professional to join a dynamic multi‑professional team. Provide leadership, support and development to Optometry and Advanced Clinical Practitioner colleagues. Part of the Senior Leadership Team of a busy Ophthalmology service led by six partners, including five senior Consultant Ophthalmologists. Services include cataract, glaucoma, neovascular AMD, vitreoretinal conditions and oculoplastics.
This full‑time role offers a competitive salary and is suitable for experienced leaders with significant knowledge in optometry developments and advanced clinical practice. Must hold current registration with GOC, HCPC or NMC. Post‑registration specialist experience is an advantage. Commitment to continuous improvement, audit and professional development is required.

Clinical Duties and Responsibilities
* Perform comprehensive diagnostic procedures and clinical assessments independently.
* Analyse and interpret specialist diagnostic test results.
* Identify new or deteriorating conditions, carry out relevant tests and refer to Consultant, Doctor or third‑party provider as appropriate.
* Advise patients on eye‑condition care, treatment options, medication and possible side effects, explaining implications even for distressed or confused patients.
* Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold evidence‑based clinical standards.
* Ensure delivery of agreed quality standards, taking necessary action to remedy shortcomings.
* Safely use specialist equipment.
* Keep accurate patient health records, archive as required, and communicate progress to GPs and other professionals.
Administrative Duties
* Manage clinical staff (Optometrists, Orthoptists, Nurse Practitioners), improve poor performance and discipline staff as per Newmedica policies.
* Provide clear objectives to direct reports and hold them accountable.
* Support senior staff in investigations of complaints and clinical incidents, ensuring thorough investigations and action plans.
* Identify and act on infection risks.
* Develop and revise standard operating procedures with clinical partners.
* Participate in staff recruitment, induction and appraisal; undertake 1‑2‑1s and annual appraisals.
Professional Duties
* Operate within the regulatory and professional code of practice.
* Commit to Continuing Professional Development and Clinical Governance.
* Participate in training, development, audit and research projects.
Qualifications – Essential
* MCOptom specialist optometry degree, or BSc(Hons) in Ophthalmic Optics/Optometry, or equivalent.
* Independent prescribing (IP) qualification or working towards it.
* Post‑registration specialist experience (e.g., Glaucoma or Medical Retina certificate).
* Current registration with GOC, NMC or HCPC.
* Knowledge of clinical practice and developments in optometry.
* Experience in a leadership position.
* Commitment to medical audit.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office and clinical information systems.
* Capacity to see at least 22 patients in a clinic day.
