Currently, in partnership with several consortium members, Balfour Beatty has been chosen by BP (British Petroleum) to build a pioneering fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage. This project is a key step towards establishing Teesside as the UK's first decarbonised industrial cluster.
We are seeking a Senior Construction Engineer to support the Net Zero Teesside project at our new site in Redcar, Cleveland.
Role Purpose
* Assist the Project Manager with scope definition, planning, and daily project execution. Manage aspects of the project schedule, submittal approvals, material delivery, schedules, and budgets.
* Oversee all technical aspects during the Construction phase, including scope definition, design reviews, TQ’s, subcontractor management, cable calculations, final As-Built checks, and safety and schedule adherence.
* Report to the Project Manager and collaborate with key team members such as QS, Design, and Planning teams.
What you’ll be doing
As a Senior Construction Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
* Defining work package scopes and execution strategies.
* Ensuring delivery to programme, budget, safety, and quality standards.
* Maintaining comprehensive records (RFIs, FCDs, WPPs, MCRs, ITPs, Record Drawings, etc.).
* Planning and organizing plant, access, labour, and materials, including procurement activities.
* Providing technical input for tenders and assisting with technical queries during the tender process.
* Managing subcontracted packages, ensuring deliverables and documentation are met.
* Conducting progress meetings with subcontractors.
* Identifying risks and raising EWNs as needed.
* Drafting site instructions, including scope, location, programme, and cost impacts.
* Providing cost estimates and supporting the programme with MTOs.
* Liaising with the Project or Contract Manager regarding project progress and risks.
* Reviewing power distribution and protection systems for LV & MV.
* Specifying and selecting electrical distribution & control equipment.
* Managing electrical engineering issues, procurement, installation, and commissioning support.
Who we’re looking for
Essential qualities and experience include:
* Previous Construction Engineering experience in the relevant industry.
* Effective communication skills for managing relationships and team coordination.
* Leadership skills with experience leading teams and influencing others.
* Financial awareness to meet targets and improve safety and sustainability performance.
* Willingness to visit suppliers and monitor activities.
Desirable qualities include:
* Experience with Lean Construction principles and training.
* Participation in industry events.
* Membership in professional bodies like IET.
* Proficiency in O365.
* Valid driving license.
Preferred qualifications:
* HNC/HND in Engineering/Construction or equivalent experience.
* APM PFQ/PMQ/PPQ.
* CSCS and SMSTS or equivalent.
* CCNSG / HS&E MAPS certification.
