Contract: Locum – Full-time, Mon-Fri 08:30-16:30
Hourly Rate: £26+ per hour
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: 3–6 months (with potential extension)
Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join a Children’s Community Therapy Team on a locum basis. This role focuses on delivering high-quality, child-centred occupational therapy services in homes, clinics, schools, and early years settings.
This is an excellent opportunity for a therapist passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people with developmental, physical, and/or sensory needs.
Key Responsibilities
1. Conduct comprehensive assessments of children with a range of needs including developmental delays, physical disabilities, and sensory integration difficulties.
2. Develop and deliver individualised treatment plans in collaboration with families, schools, and multidisciplinary teams.
3. Provide recommendations and training for adaptive equipment, access, and environmental modifications.
4. Support children’s participation in daily living, play, and school activities.
5. Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with service protocols.
6. Participate in service development initiatives and attend regular MDT meetings.
Client Group
Children with motor coordination difficulties (DCD, ASD, ADHD, co-morbidities), rheumatology issues affecting hand function, behaviour that challenges, neurological and genetic conditions.
Assessments Used
Range of departmental paperwork and standardized assessments including: Initial assessment forms, Risk assessment paperwork, BOT DASH, VMI, Clinical observations, Oxford 24/7 postural management, triage conversations, telephone consultations.
Location & Coverage
Based at Leyland House, covering Chorley and South Ribble area, including clinic-based, school, and home visits.
Requirements
* HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist
* Minimum of 12 months’ paediatric experience in a community, educational, or clinical setting
* Solid understanding of child development and therapeutic interventions
* Strong communication and case management skills
* Car driver with access to a vehicle (community visits required)
* Enhanced DBS clearance (mandatory)
