Join the Dorset Steps 2 Wellbeing Service as a Trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP). The role is based at 42 Gravel Hill, Wimborne for the Poole Team or 18 Tower Road, Boscombe for the Bournemouth Team.
The PWP will provide low‑intensity psychological interventions to people with mild to moderate common mental health problems such as anxiety disorders and depression. Responsibilities include carrying out risk assessments, delivering phone, online or face‑to‑face support, liaising with other agencies and signposting patients to additional services.
Employment Conditions
Driving is essential for this role: applicants must hold a full and valid UK driving licence and be able to use their own vehicle for Trust business.
Applicants must have a Level 5 or higher qualification or equivalent experience. An Enhanced DBS check will be provided by the Trust. Visa sponsorship is not available; candidates must have the right to work in the UK.
Main duties of the job
Academic training is provided by the University of Exeter and is delivered through a hybrid model combining online learning with scheduled face‑to‑face teaching days. Trainees will split their time between university study and working within the service. You will learn to complete person‑centred assessments and deliver CBT‑based Guided Self‑Help interventions for clients experiencing mild to moderate depression and/or anxiety disorders (including Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder and OCD).
Trainees work on a hybrid basis: a minimum of two days a week delivering face‑to‑face interventions, with remaining days worked remotely.
Qualifications
* Completion of a PWP Training Course (Post Graduate Certificate or Level 3 undergraduate course)
* Equivalent experience as a qualified graduate mental health worker with relevant primary care competencies
* Training in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, counselling or a psychological therapy discipline
* Psychological or other health‑related undergraduate or postgraduate degree
Skills / Experience
* Experience working with individuals who have experienced a mental health problem
* High standard of written and verbal communication, including telephone skills
* Experience evaluating and implementing training effects
* Ability to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients
* Understanding of anxiety and depression presentations in primary care
* Experience working in primary care services with agreed clinical targets
* Self‑management of caseload and time
* Training or experience in risk assessment within scope of practice
* Knowledge of medication used for anxiety, depression and other common mental health problems
* Understanding of evidence‑based psychological therapies and their relevance to this post
