Control Room Manager
Location: National Operations Centre, Northampton
Salary: £35, - £36, per annum (depending on experience)
Shift Pattern: 4 on, 4 off (Days Only), 06:30 – 18:30
We are recruiting for a Control Room Manager to join our National Operations Centre in Northampton. This is a pivotal leadership role where strong, experienced people management is absolutely essential.
About the Role: We are not necessarily looking for someone with a control room background — we are looking for a proven, confident, and high-performing people manager. You must be able to clearly demonstrate a strong track record of managing large teams of 20 or more employees in a fast-paced environment.
Your role will be to lead and develop a team of over 20 Control Room Operators who work a 24/7 shift pattern (days and nights), ensuring operational excellence at all times.
If you cannot evidence strong team leadership, this role will not be suitable.
Key Responsibilities:Lead and inspire a team of 20+ Control Room Operators, ensuring accountability and high performance.
1. Take full ownership of day-to-day team management, including support for night shift colleagues.
2. Conduct one-to-ones, performance reviews, appraisals, and regular coaching sessions.
3. Manage all aspects of HR related to your team – including recruitment, absence, and disciplinary processes.
4. Set clear objectives and ensure they are consistently delivered against.
5. Drive team standards and ensure excellent communication across all shifts.
6. Champion a culture of responsibility, attention to detail, and service excellence.
7. Be confident using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and internal systems.
Essential Experience:
8. Extensive people management experience is critical.
9. You must be able to demonstrate successful leadership of teams of 20 or more staff.
10. Skilled in motivating individuals, managing performance, and developing team culture.
11. Experience with recruitment, appraisals, HR processes, and driving staff engagement.
12. Proficient in using Microsoft Office applications and comfortable with system-based environments.
13. Strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
