Job summary Primary Care Physio is England's largest leading national independent specialist first contact primary care provider focussed on supporting NHS Primary Care Networks (PCNs) and their GP practices to deliver high‑quality, tech‑enabled FCP solutions across Physiotherapy and Podiatry.

We support over 170 NHS PCNs with an integrated, local FCP managed service and serve around 15% of all GP practices, caring for a patient population of over 8 million.


Main duties of the job

To apply, you should be a fully HCPC and CoP registered podiatrist with at least 5 years post‑graduate experience, including 3 years of relevant clinical experience in line with HEE's Roadmap to Practice.

Job responsibilities


Clinical Practice

* Assess, diagnose, triage, and manage patients with a complex caseload, including ordering investigations such as x‑rays and blood tests, and making referrals.
* Develop and employ your full clinical scope, including independent prescribing, injection therapy, and investigations, where trained.
* Manage complex interactions with patients having psychosocial and mental health needs, referring to social prescribing where appropriate.
* Deliver supported patient self‑management programmes to optimise physical activity, mobility, and independence while minimising pharmacological interventions.
* Provide care tailored to individual needs, appraising the impact of clinical status on health and wellbeing.
* Support patients to set their own goals and build confidence in self‑management.


Evidence, Research & Development

* Build relationships and collaborative working across the PCN to integrate pathways.
* Work as part of an MDT, using your expertise to strengthen links for foot and ankle services through leadership, teaching, and evaluation.
* Support research and audit programmes to evaluate and improve FCP service effectiveness.
* Streamline care pathways to ensure timely patient access.


Leadership

* Lead, manage, and contribute to service delivery.
* Implement effective clinical governance, including audit, evaluation, supervision, and training.
* Communicate complex and sensitive information to patients and carers, supporting personalised care.


Facilitating Learning

* Provide feedback and support to PCN clinical team members on referral criteria.
* Critically reflect on your own practice and continue developing skills.


Person Specification


Qualifications – Essential

* Fully HCPC and CoP registered practising podiatrist.
* Up‑to‑date CPD portfolio demonstrating knowledge of the musculoskeletal core capabilities framework for first point of contact practitioners and the four pillars of advanced practice, with identified developmental needs.


Qualifications – Desirable

* Qualified injection therapist and/or independent prescriber.
* Completion of a level 7 MSc or equivalent.


Experience – Essential

* Minimum 5 years post‑graduate podiatry experience.


Experience – Desirable

* Previous clinical experience of first contact triage, even in the private sector.
* Experience working in a GP practice.
* Experience using EMIS or SystmOne systems.
