Overview
Consultant Psychiatrist & Medical Director – Female Personality Disorders. This is a full-time position based at Cygnet Nield House, Crewe, Cheshire. The post holder will provide senior medical cover on the Female Personality Disorder ward and will be the Medical Director for the hospital as well as the Responsible Clinician on Clarion Ward.
Responsibilities
* As Medical Director, ensure optimal clinical outcomes, lead on all aspects of clinical practice, monitor performance of medical staff, and supervise consultants to ensure appropriate supervision of specialty doctors and associate clinicians.
* Provide expert knowledge and support within the service and to the wider team; ensure quality and compliance with internal and external standards and regulations.
* Work with colleagues to provide integrated, whole-person treatment and care; coach, mentor and train colleagues; ensure regular communication with medical staff through meetings.
* Assist in recruitment and retention of medical staff; involve medical staff in hospital clinical governance; collaborate with hospital managers to implement CQC outcomes.
* Chair medical advisory committee meetings and attend Cygnet Medical Directors meetings; liaise with the Responsible Officer and Regional Medical Director regarding fitness to practice concerns.
* As Consultant Psychiatrist, lead on the provision of high-quality care to service users admitted to Clarion Ward; act as a positive role model for patients, families and staff.
* Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans with the multi-disciplinary team; assess referrals and conduct mental state examinations; undertake investigations, diagnoses and treatments as appropriate.
* Conduct ward rounds, patient reviews and clinical audits; lead risk assessment and risk management and embed clinical governance within the service.
* Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals and attend hearings; liaise with the Ministry of Justice for transfer of patients and approval of leave as required; maintain patient records and ensure regular communications with Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager.
* Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, staff, directors and other concerned bodies; attend academic meetings; adhere to GMC, Department of Health and Royal College of Psychiatrists CPD standards; contribute to telephone on-call rota.

* Site: Cygnet Nield House, Crewe, Cheshire; Clarion Ward is a 14-bed complex personality disorder service for women with a dual diagnosis (personality disorder and co-morbid disordered eating), which will change to personality disorders only.

Requirements
* Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent)
* Specialist register (CCT/CESR), Section 12 and AC status
* Experience in General Adult Psychiatry and mental health diagnosis
* Knowledge of Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and related codes
* Strong communication skills; ability to interview, assess and document medical notes
* Committed to continued professional development; able to work in a multi-disciplinary team
* MRCPsych or equivalent
