Main duties of the job
The post holder will be a Registered Nurse expected to demonstrate leadership through clinical expertise, delivering high standards of person-centred care for people requiring specialist palliative end-of-life care. Additionally, you will provide proactive, safe, and seamless quality nursing care, coordinate care needs, and facilitate a supportive, caring, and compassionate environment.
The role involves managing the nursing team, including delegating work daily, conducting performance reviews, and undertaking recruitment and return-to-work interviews.

Job responsibilities
Clinical Practice
The post holder is accountable for maintaining standards and professional practice per Hospice policies, NMC code, NICE guidance, and relevant professional guidelines.
Responsibilities include providing skilled nursing care based on evidence-based practice, comprehensive assessments, holistic care planning, advanced communication skills, and developing specialist nursing skills in palliative care and symptom management.
You will develop and implement individualised care plans, advocate for patients, support long-term condition reviews, and ensure accurate documentation. Tasks include setting up syringe drivers, IV therapies, wound care, and medication management. You will also facilitate end-of-life discussions, support patients and carers emotionally and practically, and communicate effectively within healthcare teams.
Additional duties include administrative tasks like controlled drug destruction and equipment ordering, and utilizing local resources for patient support.
Leadership/Service Development
Be vigilant to adult at-risk needs, participate in supervising nursing staff, promote equality of opportunity, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. Act as a role model for communication and nursing expertise.
Training and Education
Participate in mandatory training, maintain clinical expertise, and engage in professional development, including mentoring and teaching roles.
Audit and Research
Engage in service development activities, contribute to policy and guideline development, and champion areas like infection control and medicines management.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Current RN Level 1 registration with the NMC
* Post-basic qualification in cancer/palliative care or working towards it
* Evidence of ongoing professional development
* NMC-approved Practice Assessor qualification
* Relevant post-registration experience at Band 5 or above in cancer, palliative care, or related fields
Disclosure and Barring Service Check
This role requires a DBS check in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1975 (Exceptions Order). Submission for disclosure is necessary to check for any previous convictions.
