The Data Gals are excited to be partnering with a UK organisation to appoint a hands-on data leader. This is a pivotal role focused on creating business value through scalable, reusable data products that empower teams across multiple functions.
You’ll lead a small team of analytics engineers and act as the analytics hub, connecting stakeholders across Commercial, Retail, CRM, Digital, and Supply Chain. By translating business requirements into high quality models and self service solutions, you’ll enable better decision-making across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
* Own and evolve the transformation layer and semantic models to enable reporting and self-service analytics.
* Lead, mentor, and develop a team of two analytics engineers, fostering delivery excellence and team cohesion.
* Act as the central point of contact between the data function and business units, ensuring needs are translated into scalable solutions.
* Influence and engage stakeholders across the business, clearly communicating complex data concepts in simple, actionable terms.
* Collaborate with the central data engineering team managing the cloud infrastructure (BigQuery, GCP).
* Coordinate with third party partners responsible for pipeline orchestration and Airflow maintenance.
* Drive standardisation across naming conventions, definitions, and documentation to strengthen governance and data discoverability.
* Influence the organisation’s data roadmap, ensuring it aligns with evolving business priorities.
* Take ownership of data quality used across analytics, influencing upstream teams and IT where required.
* Continuously improve existing processes, identifying opportunities to simplify and automate so that teams can focus on insight, not data wrangling.
Required Skills & Experience
* Strong SQL skills, with a proven ability to design reliable, reusable data models in cloud data warehouses (ideally BigQuery).
* Proficiency in modular data modelling frameworks such as Dataform or dbt, with an emphasis on testing and documentation.
* Experience with orchestration tools (e.g. Airflow) for managing data pipelines.
* Familiarity with modern data stacks, version control (Git), and CI/CD best practices.
* Strong ability to validate and interrogate large datasets, with a high attention to detail.
* Experience supporting BI environments (e.g. Looker, Power BI, Tableau) through well-structured datasets for self-service.
* Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills – able to translate complex data into actionable insights for non-technical audiences and influence senior decision makers.
* Ability to operate as a data lead in cross-functional projects, influencing stakeholders and outcomes.
* 4+ years in data or analytics roles, including 1–2 years specialising in analytics engineering or data product ownership.
* Experience with GCP, BigQuery, Dataform, Jira, and GitHub desirable.
