Additional Needs Teaching Assistant – Torfaen
Location: Torfaen, South Wales
Pay Rate: £13.75 - £14.50 per hour
Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday
Start Date: September 2025
A fantastic opportunity has become available to join a secondary school in Torfaen as an Additional Needs Teaching Assistant, supporting pupils within a dedicated Special Needs Resource Base (SNRB).
This is a full-time role starting in September 2025, during school hours (8:30am–3:30pm). The position offers both challenge and reward as you work directly with students who need extra support with their learning and development.
About the Role:
You’ll be providing essential support to students aged 11–16 who have a range of additional learning needs, including:
Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
ADHD
Behavioural and emotional needs
Low literacy and numeracy levels
Nurture and social development challenges
Your key responsibilities will include:
Working 1:1 or in small groups with pupils to build confidence and improve focus
Supporting life skills development and helping pupils engage with everyday routines
Assisting with reading, writing, and basic numeracy interventions
Creating a safe, inclusive learning environment with the guidance of the class teacher
Using your initiative and creativity to adapt activities to meet pupils’ individual needs
This role is particularly well-suited to someone calm, empathetic, proactive, and confident working independently as well as part of a team.

Comfortable supporting students with complex needs
Passionate about inclusion and making a positive impact in pupils’ lives
Experience with SEN, behavioural needs, or youth support is desirable, but not essential. The most important qualities are your attitude and willingness to learn.

Enhanced Child Workforce DBS (on the Update Service or willingness to apply)
Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC)
Two professional references
