Senior Electrical Engineer Contract Role!

Location: Birmingham
Office: B3
Start Date: January 2026 – 6 months ongoing
⏱ Hours: 37.5 hours per week
IR35 Status: Inside IR35


About the Role

A leading building design practice is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join the team on a contract basis. This Senior Electrical Engineer role will support project delivery across the Midlands, Southwest, and Wales, working across a wide range of sectors including residential, commercial, education, healthcare, transportation, defence, and energy.

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will take a key role in delivering high-quality electrical building services designs while working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and supporting junior engineers.


Key Responsibilities

* Act as a Senior Electrical Engineer responsible for understanding project briefs and delivering compliant designs
* Design and specify electrical building services systems including power, lighting, life safety, telecoms, security, access control, lifts, and lightning protection
* Produce and review detailed electrical calculations using Amtech/ProDesign, Dialux/Relux, Excel, and in-house tools
* Prepare technical specifications using NBS
* Collaborate with international engineering teams where appropriate
* Work closely with BIM teams using Autodesk Revit
* Undertake site surveys, inspections, and monitor site works
* Produce technical reports and maintain project documentation
* Manage workload, budgets, and elements of project delivery
* Review progress and report any changes in scope
* Support the development and mentoring of junior engineers


Requirements

* Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline
* Chartered Engineer (CIBSE or IET preferred)
* Proven experience working as a Senior Electrical Engineer within a design consultancy or contractor design environment
* Strong knowledge of electrical building services standards and regulations
* Proficient in Amtech/ProDesign, Dialux/Relux, NBS, and Microsoft Office
* Understanding of energy reduction strategies, decarbonisation, and building performance
* Strong report writing, communication, and client-facing skills
* Ability to work independently, make technical decisions, and manage time and budgets effectively
