Main duties of the job
The Royal Lancaster Infirmary provides an acute thrombolysis service (with thrombectomy at Royal Preston Hospital) and uses a specialist Telestroke On‑Call Service. There is an opportunity to join the general medicine on‑call rota, Telestroke on‑call rota, or both.
You will support the development of the Stroke Service, working alongside existing Stroke Consultants, the Care of the Elderly Team, general medicine colleagues, and inter‑specialty teams (Neuroradiology, Neurosurgery, vascular surgery), as well as advanced nurse practitioners, matrons, ward managers, nurses, therapists and secretaries.
Responsibilities include acute medical and rehabilitation care, contributing to a high‑quality TIA Service, patient care in the Combined Stroke Unit, the TIA Clinic, and Out‑Patient Clinics, and allocation of time for SPA and clinical administration work.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications / Skills
* Full registration with the GMC, MRCP or equivalent.
* Certificate of completion in specialist training (CCT) in general internal medicine and geriatric medicine, or within 6 months of completion at interview.
Desirable
* Evidence of additional stroke experience.
Experience
* Broad exposure to medical diseases and management.
* Comprehensive patient management, ability to train and supervise junior medical staff and medical students.
