All about the Role
We are seeking an energetic and enthusiastic part-time cook/kitchen team member to work in our commercial kitchen at Clare Lodge Secure Children's Home. The role involves following pre-planned menus for lunch and dinner, serving a minimum of 25+ covers per sitting for residents and care workers. The menu is designed in accordance with the Homes Policy, consulting with residents to ensure a healthy, varied diet for young people aged 12 to 17 years.
Responsibilities include cooking at least once a week (cook days) and assisting with daily kitchen operations on non-cook days. The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
* Level 2 Food Hygiene and NVQ or equivalent in Catering
* Flexibility to undertake additional hours and shift swaps to cover leave or sickness
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Experience in catering and general kitchen operations
* Responsibility for the kitchen environment and assisting with stock management and ordering within PCC guidelines
* Receiving and checking deliveries, reporting discrepancies
* Operation of kitchen equipment, waste management, and adherence to health, safety, hygiene, and Food Allergen Regulations
The successful candidate will undertake training on relevant policies and procedures for safe operation within a secure environment.
Working Hours
28.5 hours over a 2-week rota, following a 6-week fixed pattern:
* Week 1: 31.5 hours
* Week 2: 25.5 hours
Shift timings include weekdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, with days worked on a rota system including weekends and bank holidays.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
* Level 2 Food Hygiene and NVQ or equivalent in Catering
* Flexibility for additional hours and shift swaps
* Ability to work independently and in a team
* Catering experience and a broad culinary background
* Responsibility for kitchen environment and stock management
* Operation of kitchen equipment, waste management, and compliance with safety regulations
You will also undertake training related to safety and security policies for working within a secure environment.
